Whether you're a longtime resident or new to rural life, protecting your home from wildfire risk is essential. These helpful tips, shared by the National Fire Protection Association and passed along by Briana Wehrli, Relationship Manager II AVP at AgWest, are a great starting point:
-Prepare Your Home
-Create defensible space. Clear 100 feet around your home of low-hanging tree limbs, brush, and leaf debris.
-Upgrade for safety. If possible, consider non-combustible roofing and siding materials for added protection.
-Have an Evacuation Plan
-Plan ahead. Decide what essentials you’ll take, your route, and a safe meeting place.
-Practice. Review and run through the plan with everyone in your household.
-Leave Early
-If a wildfire threatens your home, don’t wait—leave early.
-Always follow instructions from fire and law enforcement officials.
